My daughter was provided entry to the Toyota kartStart program to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
How many kids get their first instructions in driving from a professional race car driver? Not many, I bet. However just over a week ago, my oldest daughter had the opportunity to participate in Toyota’s kartStart program. Retired race car driver Russ Bond worked with the group to give them all valuable driving skills and teaching them how to use those skills in a go cart.
Our daughter had no experience driving any form of vehicle before. This was her first experience with any real form of driving. As with all new drivers, she was a touch tentative at first as she learned how to operate the pedals. Russ worked closely with her to make sure that she was able to operate the kart safely. It was great watching her drive around the track, but even better still was seeing how happy she was after she was done. She was picking up a new skill, one she would need for the rest of her life and doing it under the supervision of someone who really understood the safety aspects of doing it right.
Virtual Reality
An interesting fun little add on that was at the event was a virtual reality car. With the Virtual Reality goggles in place the car drove through some interesting scenarios. It showed the user a great view of exactly what you would see in real life as it happened. Our youngest daughter took a try and really loved the experience. A crash test dummy drove the virtual reality car. It drove through several safety scenarios in a town populated by other crash test dummies. The VR showed things like how the car and passengers would react to a quick stop for an kid running in front of the car as well.
I know our daughter loved her time there. If you ever have the opportunity to take your kids through the Toyota kartStart program I would highly recommend it.
