For the very first time on DVD, the early years of mythology’s mightiest man are revealed in Young Hercules: The Complete Series! Released June 23rd by Shout! Factory, Young Hercules: The Complete Series includes all fifty episodes of the action adventure series in a six-DVD set, as well as a bonus featurette called Writing the Legend of Young Hercules.
This prequel series to the smash hit Hercules: The Legendary Journeys explores the dawn of an ancient age of light and darkness as the half-god, half-man Hercules (Ryan Gosling, The Notebook) — and his friends, Prince Jason (Chris Conrad, Mortal Kombat Annihilation) and Iolaus (Dean O’Gorman, The Hobbit Trilogy) — struggles to find his place in the world and learns what it means to be a hero.
Executive produced by Sam Raimi and Robert G. Tapert (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess), Young Hercules aired on the Fox Kids Network from 1998 to 1999, and was nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards.
• Writing the Legend of Young Hercules featurette
Young Hercules is an interesting tale that delves deeper into the heart of some of the bigger mythological tales, covering the early days of Hercules, Jason and Iolaus three individuals who would go on to be fairly well known in mythology.
My husband is a fantasy and mythology fan so he was quite pleased to get a chance to sit down and watch the entire series. He was thrilled with the way the show portrayed the heroes in their younger days and the way that the younger heroes were portrayed as being the same type of people as we all were growing up. Hanging out with friends, getting into a little bit of mischief and generally trying to fit in with those around them.
