Our son is autistic. He was first introduced to Leap Frog toys at the age of 3 so we could take advantage of the educational aspect of their toys to try to help give him a bit of a leg up on his learning. He has used a large number of products from Leap Frog over the years including various versions of the Leapster as well as two different levels of the Leap Reader. Our son used to take advantage of two aspects of the Leap Reader tool, using it to read the books by pointing at the words and various objects on the page as well as using the read to me type function to go through all the books (and card packs) that we had stored on his Reader.
He used to routinely go through all of the stories but a couple for some reason stuck out as things he would use over and over, one was the book Click Clack Moo, Cows That Type and the other was an set of cards about animals that he used so often he wore it out.
Overall between his extensive time spent on both the Leap Reader system and the Leapster our son actually did pick up some of the skills that enabled him to get a good grasp on things he would soon be learning in school, it also gave him an interest in learning new things that enabled the teachers and his EA’s to be able to work with him to keep him learning once these toys were no longer enough to keep him advancing.
This year, LeapFrog introduces LeapReader, the next generation of learning and the complete Learn to read and write solution for kids. With LeapReader, kids will sound out words and read sentences, learn to write letters with interactive guidance, and listen to audio books, music and more on-the-go. The LeapReader solution includes three essential experiences:
Learn to Read: Sounds out words, reads sentences, and lets kids play games and puzzles.
Learn to Write: LeapReader helps kids learn the sequence of strokes and practice writing letters and numbers with special LeapFrog Learning Paper.
Learn through Listening: Audio books, learning songs and trivia challenges build comprehension skills and vocabulary.
