Another year, another blank slate to write the next chapter of your life. There’s no time like the present to set the counter back to zero and reflect on your personal goals for the year. Whether your final objective is increasing your workout time, reading more books or picking up a new hobby, how will you make sure your 2018 goals will stick past January?
While we all like to start the New year off with great intentions, the road to a new routine can be a steep climb. Here are a few tips that will help you stay dedicated to your resolutions in 2018.
-
Arm Yourself With the Right Tools
Many of us turn to running in the new year because there are no classes to sign up for or expensive equipment to buy. It may be easy to start, but this high-impact activity requires some preparation. The force exerted on your knees is as much as three times higher than walking. And an injury is a sure-fire resolution killer.
Increase your chances of staying in the race by making sure you’re wearing the right shoes for the way you run and always break in new shoes with shorter runs first. Try replacing the thin insoles that come with your running shoes with insoles made for running. Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles can reduce shock by 40 per cent and alleviate pain from common sports injuries including runner’s knee, shin splints and plantar fasciitis.

Keep a Journal
Take the extra time to expand your resolutions into realistic, measurable goals. Be specific about how you plan to achieve them and track your weekly progress in a journal. Remember to include checkpoints to celebrate the small achievements along the way!
-
Practice Self-Care Along the Way
If getting active is on your resolutions list, you’ll be quick to develop a love/hate relationship with muscle soreness. On one hand, you’ve crushed a hard workout, but your reward is a sore back and neck. Take control of your pain at home. ALEVE Pain Relief Caplets provide fast acting 12-hour relief from back and body aches so you can get back to it.

Rest and Recovery
No matter what you’re trying to achieve this year, always factor adequate rest into your schedule. Staying up late to finish a book on your reading list can be counterproductive to reaching your goals. Get at least six hours of sleep each night. Mix in a meditation session once a week to help refresh your mind and body.
When I make New Years resolutions, I try to implement goals that I have a realistic chance of keeping. This year my goals are to travel more and to eat healthier. My plan to change my unhealthy eating behaviors, involves changing one thing at a time. Which will work to ensure each change become a habit, making it much easier to keep on track.
How will you Prepare to Stay Dedicated to your New Year’s Resolutions?

These are all great tips! I like to make goal as the year goes along easier for me to keep them. The goal I always make in the New year is to go back to healthy eating and Aquafit. With all the baking the sugar consumption is too high and Aquafit drop in is not available during the Holidays at my favourite pools.
I tend to make short term goals and those are the ones I can keep. Thanks for info and I do try to keep my resolutions.
I usually make resolutions each new year but this year I didn’t. I wonder if that is why I don’t seem to be accomplishing anything…. Thank you for the much needed nudge this post gave me.
One day at a time, just one day!
Well I have started and quit about 5-6 times now, I am not making anymore resolutions lol, but I am really trying to control my eating!
I have definitely put effort into keeping my resolutions this year. I am trying to be more actively engaged with my kids and, so far, I have been acing it.
These are all good tips especially about journaling.
I try to take baby steps. Remember you can’t do it all in one day. You just have to keep at it.
Thank you for the wonderful tips. Having the right tools to accomplish your resolution is so very important.
i kept most of the one but i got injured now and having to have 3 surgery bummer
Let me just say this, THANK GOD! I have been lagging in the Resolution bucket. I have been saying about quitting smoking and losing weight and haven’t been really paying any mind that I promised this to myself! These are some really GREAT ways to whoop my butt into shape! Ahh! thank you so much!
On New Years I made 3 resolutions for the year. Amazingly I have done all of your tips, except the Journal, which I will begin tomorrow, thank you for the advice.
I love the tips. Thank you. I have used some of them.
