As the summer wedding invites start to rush in from your oh-so-in-love friends, sibling, cousins and college acquaintances, the first thing that typically comes to mind is “what am I going to wear?” But there’s more to being a wedding guest than choosing the right look. Don’t rely on the happy couple to supply everything you need to enjoy the day, come prepared!
When I got married it was a very hot day. So we had a full day standing around taking pictures and the wedding itself can take it’s toll on the bride and groom as well as the guests. While my wedding was not that long ago, some of the useful products that are available today would have definitely helped make my life a whole lot easier.
There are a few mishaps you can count on when it comes to summertime nuptials. I’ve rounded up a list of everything you’ll need to stay comfortable and carefree from “I do” to the sparkler exit.
Deodorant
All that dancing can work up a sweat. Don’t get caught unprepared! Deodorant wipes are a convenient and portable option that fit in any clutch, purse or pocket.
Makeup Touch-up Kit
If you took the time to apply makeup for the wedding, you’ll want it to last throughout the entire event. At the very least, you’ll need a lip product to reapply after dinner and blotting tissues to cut down on shine. If you have the space, throw in eyeliner too in case of any unexpected tears.
Breath Mints
You never know if onions and garlic will be on the menu. Stay fresh with a small tin of strong mints.
Bug Repellent
Bugs are notorious summer wedding crashers. For serious protection from uninvited guests of the insect variety, choose a bug repellent with DEET like Muskol. Muskol will last you up to eight hours, so you’re covered even if that outdoor ceremony goes into overtime.
Mini First-aid Kit
Weddings can be long affairs and a sudden headache or an annoying cough can ruin your day. I recommend bringing along a few bandages, cough lozenges, an antacid for stomach discomfort and your go-to headache and pain medication. Mine is Aspirin Extra Strength because it works fast!
Tissues
This one is a no-brainer. Sniffling and sneezing on your plus one is a major wedding faux-pas. Also, if you know you’re a crier, these are a must.
Insoles
Many brides these days will put out dancing flats for guests when their toes get tired, but don’t rely on it! I know wearing “sensible shoes” isn’t always an option, so pick-up an insole that can cushion the strain of standing and dancing without tripping up your style. Dr. Scholl’s has brand new ultra soft leather insoles that add comfort when walking and dancing in heels. As a bonus, they also help to keep feet fresh and dry!
I would love to hear your wedding mishap stories! What item can you not live without when it comes to surviving summer weddings?

The heal fell off of my shoe shortly after arriving at my nephews wedding a few years ago. Thank goodness I had a pair of flat shoes in the car that I was able to change into. Now I have a spare pair of high heel shoes in the car whenever I go anywhere I need to dress up.
I also had a button pop off of my top at another wedding and I didn’t have access to a needle & thread, but my sister had dental floss in her purse, so I used it to temporarily fix the problem.
All great items to have on hand, great post!!
What a great idea! I also love to have a snack on hand! Just in case you have to wait a little extra then expected! And candy for restless kids 🙂
I can’t live without a handful of nuts to carry me over until mealtime. Quite often dinner is a bit behind so this helps tie me over until then
A perfect emergency kit especially the Insoles.
Thanks for the list of necessary items. There are many essentials that are needed.
I think insoles is a great idea. Feet get sore with all the dancing.
Tissues are a must! And flat shoes for dancing at the reception 🙂
