There is no denying that winter is here and in full force. Both of my daughters have always been into the outdoors. My oldest used to beg to go outdoors and play in the snow piles, while our youngest just loves to make snowmen. However all this means that when they finally come inside, they need to not only warm up but make sure that they do not suffer any ill effects from all the cold and snow. Itchy skin, dry eyes, chapped lips and a stuffy nose are just the start of winter woes. Try these simple winter care tips and tricks to beat the harsh effects of the coldest months.
1. Don’t forget to moisturize
From skating to snowshoeing and snowy walks, winter is full of fun activities. However, we all know the cold can take a toll on our skin. In the harsh winter months, you should be paying more attention to your skincare routine. Try exfoliating more, limiting hot water and using a moisturizer. Dermal therapy body lotion is one option to help relieve dry, cracked, and itchy skin. With alpha hydroxy acids, it helps to replace old dry skin to reveal new skin and will help keep your skin smooth during the winter.
2. Stay on top of dry lips
Exfoliate your lips twice a week to help prevent chapping. Before you go to bed, make sure you apply a thick lip balm to bring back some of the moisture you may have lost during the day.
3. Fight congestion
A stuffy nose and cold weather go hand-in-hand, and this can dampen your day. Sleeping with an extra pillow to elevate your head, using a humidifier and taking hot steamy showers can help clear your congestion. You can also try a nasal spray like hydraSense Medium Stream. hydraSense is made from 100 percent naturally- sourced seawater and helps to flush out excess mucus to relieve nasal congestion. Free your nose this winter!
4. Combat dry eyes
Cold winds and dry indoor heating are a recipe for eye discomfort. Make sure to give your eyes breaks during the day by looking away from your electronics or wearing glasses instead of contacts. hydraSense Advanced for Dry Eyes is one option for effective, long-lasting relief for your irritated eyes. It is preservative free and contains a clinically proven naturally sourced lubricant.
5. Stay hydrated
You may be great at staying on top of your water intake during the summer because of the heat, but it is just as important to stay hydrated during the winter. Don’t forget to carry around a water bottle and drink regularly throughout the day.
6. Get your rest
Less sunlight and the chaos of the holidays can often make you feel tired, so getting a good night’s sleep to restore your energy is especially important during this time of year. Try your best to stick to a consistent sleep schedule. If you have a hard time getting to sleep, try a relaxing night time routine, such as reading a book or gentle stretches.
With fun outdoor activities and the holidays, the winter is an exciting time of year! Don’t let the harsh weather hold you back from doing what you love.

These are terrific winter care tips. My best tips are to take daily vitamins, eat healthy, exercise, & dress appropriately for the weather.
Great winter care tips! I find my skin and lips tend to get so dry this time of the year. To combat dry feet I use baby lotion gel and put socks on over them and it seems to lock in the moisture.and It makes my feet so soft. I also take multi vitamins and vitamin C.
It is important to have a plan for colds and being healthy.
These are all good tips, right now my skin is so dry it’s bad, I need to up my moisturizing game!

Take some extra vitamin D and turn your furnace humidifier on.
Moisturizer is key during the winter months! Hands especially! And I always have chapstick with me in the winter! 🙂
The dry eyes is one of the problems that I have been having for the last few years now. The hydraSense for dry eyes is a product I should pick up and try.
Good tips wetake vitamin c and d all winter
Good tips thanks
This is all great! I have such a hard time with the dryness that I end up with a lot of nosebleeds. I find that vaseline works better for me as the saline tends to burn a bit and not soften the skin at all… but that is just me, I’m sure.
My skin is so dry and my feet are cracking on the bottom. But I do use body lotion on them . The furnace makes my skin dry in the winter.
all very important. staying hydrated and getting lots of rest is so important for your body
zero sick days for me at work for 2018, one sick day for 2017…
Great tips and a great reminder to take care of yourself.
I make a large tonic that we take daily. Lemons, limes tumeric and honey.
These are all great tip! Gets so dry in winter time in Alberta.
Such great tips you’ve shared, I definitely need to adapt a few more of these, thanks
To stay hydrated in winter is a great tip, and one that I follow. One tip I use is to take a zinc supplement at the first sign of a sniffle to ward off that ‘oncoming’ cold. Works every time, especially in winter.
These are great tips, I have extra large dry patches on my eyes so it’s even worse now and with eczema and psoriasis I can’t skip on the lotion! Coconut oil is a great moisturizer plus it always clears up my psoriasis fast.
great tips and I am all for dressing appropriately for the weather. thanks.
Winter care is so important and feeling well matters a great deal, thanks for the tips. We do a large focus on hand washing
These are some good tips. I never think of proper hydration in wintertime until I start to feel my mouth full of cotton and then I realize just how dry I have become.
Thanks so much for these great winter tips!
The sleep thing has been really messing with me lately. It’s so hard sometimes to get a consistent’s nights rest. Not enough sleep is really wearing on my energy in the day.
